Chinderella – it’s an orthognathic fairytale, you see.

The rumour runs down the corridor:

-A pupil’s hit Miss C in the face!

-Someone whaaaat?

-She ran out of the classroom swearing in French!

-She ran out of the classroom whaaaaaaaaat??

You see, an average lesson in the school where I teach starts like this: with one foot I open the door, holding books piled high, and I usually make it to the desk, and everyone in there is more or less ready. Unless of course Olivia is in there; Olivia has taken gesticulating to a whole new, highly enthusiastic, creative level, and she’s looking the other way, and

SPLAT goes her hand into my face at full speed.

I barely have time to hear a collective gasp as I run out clutching my snout. Damage check: nose is still attached; bottom lip bleeding on the inside from the braces, tears of shock in my eyes.

When I go back into the classroom 14 very worried teenage faces and a sobbing Olivia look up. I’m so sorry, Miss C she wails. I didn’t mean it.

-Hey, I say. I hardly swore at all. And you’re so having a test right now.
